Yonsai Koi

Yonsai Koi are Japanese koi in their third year of life. Generally aged between 2.5 to 3 years old, they are considered mature, having well-developed bodies and stabilized colours, often preferred for their established, high-quality patterns and significant size development.

Key Characteristics of Yonsai Koi
  • Age: 4 years old (specifically, having lived through four growing seasons).
  • Size: They are often quite large, frequently ranging from 60cm to over 80cm depending on the breed and lineage.
  • Development: By this age, their body conformation (shape) is robust, and their skin quality and pattern have usually reached a high level of maturity.
  • Availability: Because they have been raised for several years, they are more expensive than younger fish like Tosai (1 year) or Nisai (2 years)
  • Colour Their colours are generally set and less likely to change significantly, unlike younger koi. Their body shape is typically more refined.
